Sewer Rates for 2018
Posted November 27, 2017

If sewer rates are set in 2018 as they have been in the past, then next year's sewer rates for your home will be based on your total water usage on the December, January and February bills. To minimize your sewer rate next year, be sure to conserve water as much as possible during this time period.

Keep in mind that meters may be read a few days before the end of the month.

New WB 911 Medical Form Available
Posted May 22, 2017

Medical emergencies can happen anytime. You may be home alone. Or others in the house with you may not be able to recall your medical history when 911 responders arrive.

Help 911 help you by filling out the NEW WBVFD File of Life Emergency Information form. Print the form two-sided on a single piece of paper. Fill it out in pencil to make it easy to update whenever anything changes.

Make a copy of the form for two reasons. First, keep this in your wallet - it's a good medical summary that can be helpful if you are away from home when an emegency strikes or when seeing a new doctor for the first time. Second, if you get transported to the hospital in case of an emergency the copy on your refrigerator may end up left at the hospital.

Once you've made your copies, then place the original in a red plastic magnetic File of Life holder on the outside of your refrigerator. These are available from the WB VFD - you can email Kathy Corbin or call her at 214-223-4078.

Support Group in Whitney
Posted March 20, 2017

"Reach Up" is an out-reach program for families/friends of people who have drug/alcohol addictions. They offer a place to come to "let off steam" so to speak. It is a group that basically share issues/concerns/problems they have been having with their loved ones, while getting support/comfort from those who have been dealing with these same issues for years.

This is a Christ centered group - they only offer scriptures, support and understanding along with the knowledge that no one is alone in this issue (even though you sometimes feel you are). The leaders have dealt with addict children for years and still do at times. They know from experience how heartbreaking it is, how much turmoil it can cause and that they can't fix the problem - only God can.

They meet at the Open Range Cowboy Church Community Center on FM 1713 every Thursday night from 6:30 pm to about 7:30 pm. If you  would like more information, please email

Storm Damages Marina
Posted January 2, 2017

A strong storm in the early morning hours of January 2 caused the 100 group of slips at the WB Marina to break free and blow south until they beached themselves. This is the southernmost group of slips, i.e. furthest from the Lighthouse.

While there is certainly damage to the structure roof and sidewalk, at this point it appears that the only boat that sustained damage was in slip 101.

No estimate of when this will be repaired is available yet.

Recycling Greeting Cards
Posted January 1, 2017

St Jude's Ranch for Children in Texas and Nevada collects used greeting cards for recycling on behalf of the kids. All types of greeting cards, including Christmas cards and especially birthday and thank-you cards, are needed.

The children of St Jude's participate in making new cards by removing the fronts of the cards and attaching a new back made with recycled paper.

If you would like to help, you can drop off any cards that you have in the box by the front door at the home of Ned and Linda Wilmarth, 46010 White Bluff Dr. You can cut off the backs and drop off just the fronts, or you can drop off the entire card. Greeting cards with handwriting on the back side of the front of the card cannot be used.

The cards should be dropped off by Sunday, January 22. For more information on the program, go to the St Jude's greeting card recycling program website.
